Redware Table Lamp with Marbled Decoration, No Shade

This table lamp was thrown on the wheel by Rick of Pied Potter Hamelin, decorated with a marbled motif and finished with a lead free glaze. The lamp is approximately 14” high including the shade, the redware jug is 5" high and 4.50" wide including the handle. The lamp shade is not included in the sale but we recommend a clip-on bulb attached lamp shade, approximate size: 3 in. top diameter x 6 in. bottom diameter x 5 in. slant. This type of lamp shade does not require a harp or finial but instead clips onto the lightbulb.

Our redware is hand-made by using our special clay mix and unique lead-free glaze. In order for us to control color and quality, we blend our own clay from five different clays found in different parts of the United States. Rick uses an old technique called "slip trailing" to decorate the pots with different colors of clays while Garine uses ancient pottery decoration methods, sgraffito and stamping. Sgraffito cuts through the yellow slip on the surface to reveal the red body of the clay beneath and stamping is using found objects to create patterns with slips on the surface of the pot. All our pieces are fired twice and have slight crazing in various degrees on the surface of the glaze to make them look old. Most of our plates also have cat paw prints impressed on the back that were originally created by our Siamese cat, Ashby.

Since redware pottery cannot withstand drastic changes in temperature, pie plates and baking dishes must be gradually warmed prior to baking. Platters and plates should be at room temperature or slightly warmed before serving very hot foods. Redware by nature is somewhat porous. A pot will hold liquid for a period of time, but is not recommended for long-term storage of liquids. If the piece is used as a vase, place a liner in the vase to protect your furniture.
